Skyrocket Your Sniper Site’s Profitability! Off-Page SEO…The RIGHT Way

Google Sniper focuses on On Page SEO, and this should be good enough to get you ranking in Google if you do your key word research properly – the way George tells us to.

George shows us how to identify long tail key words, and he does this for a very good reason. Long tail key words are low hanging fruit, and are therefore easier to rank for. Another benefit of long tail key words is that they are often specific key words, and therefore more likely to convert into sales.

However, I know from experience that as human beings we find it easier to disregard instructions than to follow them. If you do disregard the instructions about key word selection in Google Sniper, you could find yourself scratching your and wondering why your Sniper website is not ranking high in Google as George assured us in the book.

There are also cases where we might want to rank for more competitive terms than what George recommends.

For both of these cases, it is unlikely that the On Page SEO strategies that George presents in his book will be enough to get us to the first page of Google. What I observe very often is that soon after Google indexes my page, it could well rank on the first page, but after a few days it falls away and never returns.

This situation calls for the big hitters in our arsenal. For this particular case, we need to do some Off Page SEO in addition to the On Page SEO. George does touch on Off Page SEO in Part 3 of Chapter 6. In my opinion, though, he’s treatment of Off Page SEO is inadequate for the situation I have just described.

Off Page SEO consists primarily of building back links to your web page. It is the quality and quantity of back links that will determine how well your web page fares in the search engines.

Ideally you want a large number of back links with relevant but varied anchor text from other web pages which have related content. The higher the Page Rank (PR) of these pages the better the quality of the link we get from the pages.

I am going to give a brief example here, for the benefit of those that are new to Off page SEO.

Let’s assume that our Google Sniper web page is about ‘luxury cars’. ‘Luxury cars’ happens to be a very competitive key word.

To rank for the key word ‘luxury cars’, On page SEO would simply not cut it.

What we would need to do is build a large number of back links from pages that talk about say: cars, road vehicles, transportation, motor insurance, luxury lifestyle and luxury cars of course. I hope you get the idea. Having said that, there is no harm in getting back links from unrelated websites such as health, education etc. They just won’t carry as much weight as the links from related web pages.

The higher the PR of the web page that the back link resides on, the greater the weight given to the back link by Google.

The next thing we want to do is create varied anchor text for the back links with at least 60% (as a rough guide) of the back links having anchor text that matches the key word you are trying to rank for. In our case, out of every 10 back links at least 6 should have the anchor text ‘luxury cars’.

For variety, you would also have other anchor text such as ‘fast luxury cars’, ‘expensive cars’, ‘cars of luxury’, ‘my Bentley is a luxury car’ etc. Of course these are just examples for illustration purposes only.

If you keep on building back links of this nature, you will eventually get to the first page of Google. The more competitive the key word, the longer it will take to accomplish this, and that is exactly why George does not recommend building pages around competitive key words, and neither do I for that matter.

I do not think it is a god idea to target a highly competitive key word like ‘luxury cars’ unless you have a very good reason to, and have a lot of SEO experience.
